Our Story...
Ed Brophy was first introduced to trapshooting in 1968. He attended the MN State shoot with a friend. At that time he was an industrial arts major at St Cloud
State University with a class on product design. Having been a leather enthusiast for many years, Ed saw a way for his talents in leather to be applied in
building a product, namely the leather shell bag. That fall he set up his first display, a folding table, at the Steer & Calf shoot and received his first order.
Later that fall he traveled to Sioux Falls to secure his first trophy from the Sioux Indian Shoot. The order was for 50 bags which took him 6 months to complete.
Ed graduated in 1970 and began teaching high school industrial arts. Every summer he grew Shamrock Leathers by attending club shoots, state shoots and
the Grand American. During this time his reputation as an elite craftsman and of the quality of his products was on the rise. By 1976 he was making 3x his
teacher’s salary with Shamrock Leathers. The next year he and his wife Carol both quit their teaching jobs to focus on Shamrock full time.
The late 70’s saw a dramatic increase in the price of silver, which was a popular shooting trophy. Ed seized the opportunity by approaching several state trap
associations to use his leather products as trophies. As an enticement, Ed offered the engraving of a state logos which he developed. Many states signed
on and Shamrock grew steadily over the 80’s and 90's.
Today, Shamrock's clients and individual customers span all 50 states and 6 countries. We have a expanded our line of shooting products and developed
and second line of award plaques that are uniquely Shamrock. Our staff of 13 is dedicated to the quality and service established over 40 years ago.
